The Leeb Probe Type C is particularly suitable for testing surface-hardened components such as gears, coatings, and other thin-walled parts. Its low impact energy of 3 Nmm and lightweight design make it ideal for situations where even minimal surface deformation could compromise the part’s function or appearance.
Versatile and precise
The probe’s tungsten carbide tip, with a diameter of 3 mm and a hardness of 1600 HV, ensures durability while providing precise measurements across a wide range of materials. It is capable of measuring hardness up to 1000 HV, making it versatile for both softer coatings and harder, surface-hardened components. The probe’s small indentation size ensures that surface integrity is maintained, which is crucial in high-precision environments.
Adaptable to various testing conditions
The Leeb Probe Type C can be used with samples of different weights and thicknesses:
- Minimum sample weight:
- Of compact shape: 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs).
- On solid support: 0.5 kg (1.1 lbs).
- Coupled on plate: 0.02 kg (0.045 lbs).
- Minimum sample thickness:
- Uncoupled: 15 mm (0.59 inch).
- Coupled: 1 mm (0.04 inch).
- Surface layer thickness: 0.2 mm (0.008 inch).
Minimal indentation for sensitive surfaces
The probe produces minimal indentation sizes on test surfaces, making it suitable for sensitive applications:
- Indentation size on test surface:
- With 300 HV, 30 HRC: 0.38 mm diameter, 12 μm depth.
- With 600 HV, 55 HRC: 0.32 mm diameter, 8 μm depth.
- With 800 HV, 63 HRC: 0.30 mm diameter, 7 μm depth.
